Carl Britt’s first author publication on “Directionality for Wearable, Closely Packed Radiation Detector Arrays”

Carl Britt’s 1st first author journal paper on “Directionality for Wearable, Closely Packed Radiation Detector Arrays” has been accepted for publication in Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A.

This work shows the development of a directionality algorithm appropriate for ~1 second integrations using wearable, close packed detector arrays and demonstrates its use with a simple system composed of three close packed 2x2x4” NaI detectors. Mean Average Errors around 10 degrees were obtained for ~100 uCi gamma sources at distances of a few meters.

This work could help shift source localization approaches from use of more complex, less sensitive, handheld gamma imaging equipment that is beginning to emerge on the market to simpler, more sensitive, less expensive, wearable systems.
