Birsen Ayaz-Maierhafer

Research Scientist


Birsen has a Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. She joined our research group in 2010, working full time out of Oak Ridge National Laboratory with the Nuclear Materials Detection and Characterization group. She specializes in modeling of radiation detector systems with MCNP and also data analysis for radiation detection systems. She is now working for our IDEAS for WIND program and also consulting for ORNL’s DOE NNSA-sponsored Second Life of Defense program. She is the author of many peer reviewed publications, including a number published during her time with UT. She also teaches a MCNP module as part of a graduate level nuclear engineering course.
